St Joseph’s Doora Barefield u14 hurlers took on their neighbours Clooney Quin tonight in the U14  A Championship.

Clooney Quin started the brighter and registered the first two points of the game. Clooney Quin centre forward Tomás Ó Cearrbhalláin pointed from free after being fouled for their second score. St Joseph’s were next on the scoreboard through Tony Butler with a superb long range free for Doora Barefield against the breeze. Sam Cotter won the puck out and was unfortunate with his effort drifting wide. Tony Butler levelled the game with another score. The scoreboard read 0-2 to 0-2. Ethan Coughlan, St Joseph’s corner forward added his name to the scoresheet with a super point. Just as St Joseph’s edged in front a long delivery into the heart of the Parish defence caused problems and a penalty was awarded to Clooney Quin. Tomás O Cearrbhalláin made no mistake with a goal from the penalty.It was now Clooney Quin 1-02 to 0-3 in front. This was a purple patch for Clooney Quin and they added a point from Tomás O Cearrbhalláin to leave a goal between the teams; 1-03 to 0-03. Ethan Coughlan got first to the ball after an intelligent ball from midfield and he took another point after beating his marker. Clooney Quin got a second goal as a long range effort bounced to the net. At half time the score was 2-03 to 0-4.

In the second half, with the aid of the breeze, the Parish started sharply. There was a goal for Doora Barefield after looping delivery hit the top of the net. Seán Keane was the goal scorer. Conall O Reagan added another goal after a good finish low to the net. The corner forward was causing havoc for the Clooney Quin back line. Conall O Reagan earned a free and he made no mistake a scored free and added another shortly after. 2-05 to 2-03. Ethan Coughlan added a point from a Butler delivery. Ethan Coughlan was on target again with  another point. Clooney Quin  full forward got their third goal through Conall Egan with a low shot to the corner of the net.Tony Butler replied with a  goal and Conall O Reagan pointed from a free soon after. Tony Butler added a final point to leave 7 points between the teams. Final Score: 3-12 to 3-05
