Poor Second half costs St. Joseph’s

Sunday afternoon resulted in another tough afternoon for St. Joseph’s as they went to Ballyea in search of a win. Ballyea were without six county seniors but it didn’t matter, they were deemed the superior outfit over the match period.

All was not lot at half time as the visitors were just down by 2 points, 0-8 to 0-6 with Conroy converting the majority of the tally. Marty O’Regan was a welcome return to the back line and along side Kevin Dilleen, Alan O’Neill and Mark Hallinan, they were a formidable back line.

However upfront, scores were hard to come by and by the end of the third quarter the score read 0-14 to 0-7. A Conroy 20 metre free was saved by the Ballyea goalkeeper. This was brought about by a foul on Conor O’Brien.

It was due to be a goalless game until injury time arrived. O’brien was fouled again which resulted in another 20 metre free. This time Aaron Landy cooly dispatched to the net.

This was disregarded soon afterwards with a tap in from Ballyea’s Niall Deasy from a pass from substitute, Aonghus Keane.
