Come out and support the lads in the final. The lads have done will to get to the final and goes up to Div 5 next year

Doora Barefield Junior footballers held off a late Banner resurgence to capture the Division 6 league final. Having secured promotion a week earlier against Kilmihil they now had the opportunity to add silverware to the season and did so with a 1-11 to 1-10 win over the Banner in Gurteen. In the first half the Banner looked to have the upper hand as they went into a 4 point lead by kicking 6 unanswered points. Barefield responded with two scores to keep them in touching distance at half time with a scoreline of 6 points to 4. Three of these points came from the boot of Cathal O’Sullivan from frees and one point from play from Kieran Thyne. In the second half Barefield gradually started to take control and the decisive moment came when Ciaran Browne found the net after a great run from the half-back line. Other scores from Kieran Thyne, Jamie Collins, Michael Gallagher and Kevin Frehill extended their lead to five points. The Banner responded with a pointed free to leave the deficit at four points. A controversial late penalty was then awarded for the Banner and this was dispatched to leave one point between the teams. Barefield managed to hang on for the last few seconds to secure the title.
