U13A Semi Final V Scariff/Ogo

A sun drenched Scariff hosted the semi final of this epic U13A Championship last Saturday morning between Scariff-Ogonelloe/Whitegate and St. Joseph’s Doora Barefield.  Having won all their round games comfortably the East Clare amalgamation were expected to sail through this semi final but this didn’t prove to be the case as the Gurteen side dug deep and met each sliotar with as much passion as their opponents.

Ava Lenihan played superbly between the posts saving ball after ball with major input from her full back line Róisín Dillon, Sinēad O’Connor and Hannah Doyle.  Trojan work at mid field from Laura Butler and Shauna Moloney aided immensely by the half back line Róisín Cahill, Emma Towey and Oriana O’Shea kept the East Clare side on their toes, but despite their hard work St. Joseph’s trailed at half time 4.4 to no score.

With a few minor changes at half time and immense determination the Doora Barefield girls gave it their all in this second half.  Katie Callaghan went into goals and like her predecessor in the first half pulled off great saves.  Our forwards managed to get more ball in this half. Ellen Doyle, Anna Cosgrove and Caoilfhionn Ní Chonaill in the full forward line tried to penetrate an extremely strong full back line but in vain.  However when St. Joseph’s managed to secure a free Shauna Moloney magnificently scored a deflected well earned goal to put this wonderful bunch of girls on the score sheet for the first time followed swiftly by a bullet of a shot that rattled the net from an agile Kate Montwill who fought hard throughout this game.  Further pressure from Āine Barry, Niamh Meaney and Lucy Scullion followed suit but the East Clare side respectfully emerged as winners and will go on to meet Inagh/Kilnamona in the A Cup Final while our bunch of girls have one more hurdle to complete their U13 journey.  It will be against Truagh/Clonlara in the Shield Final on weekend of 15th/16th Oct where we have no doubt will be another epic game.
