U13A RD 4 V Inagh/Kilnamona

Gurteen hosted this fourth round U13A Camogie Championship on Wednesday evening last against the girls of Inagh/Kilnamona and pressure was on to claim a victory having only one under our belt to date. Kilnamona were first out of the blocks scoring a point but Shauna Moloney skilfully sorted the equaliser with a well positioned free after Half forward Kate Montwill was fouled just outside the 21yard line. This score seemed to settle the hosts as first ball into full forward Caoilfhionn Ní Chonaill was batted into the back of the Inagh/Kilnamona nets. However the visitors slipped into gear and tipped over another 4 points along with 3 goals without response from the maroon and white girl. Great work from Ellen Doyle in goals and full back line Róisín Dillon, Sinéad O’Connor and Oriana O’Shea kept the scoreline at 3-5 to 1-1 at half time.

The pressure was on from the time of throw-in at the second half and great pressure from Emma Towey at centre back and Saidhbh O’Brien kept the Inagh/Kilnamona girls to a minimum of just two points in this half. Consistent balls into the forward line from Kate Montwill, Emma O’Dwyer and Laura Butler wasn’t enough to pierce the strength of the visitors defence and Aine Nic Cormaic finally closed the curtain on a score line of 3-7 to 1-1.

Despite losing, this bunch of Doora/Barefield girls showed great battle and determination in the second half to allow their opponents to score just two points. Mentors and parents alike are very proud.
