Minor B V Broadford

A more evenly balanced St. Joseph’s side sealed a win in the Minor B Championship final round as they accounted for Broadford in Gurteen last Tuesday evening in a close and exciting encounter.
Playing with the aid of the wind in the opening half, Broadford had a six point advantage
by half time 2-2 to 0-2.  Niamh Mulqueen’s first half tally 1-2 for Broadford played a key role in that lead.  Hannah Meaney replied with a point to Broadford’s opening goal inside the first minute of the half, with Ciara Whelan pointing from a free.
At the resumption of the second half and playing with the wind, St. Josephs were determined to get back in contention.  Ciara Whelan pounced on goal in the opening minute before Broadford’s Moya Marsh McMahon struck for goal a minute later. This was to be the visitors last score of the game as the parish side kept the pressure on with points from Ciara Whelan (2), Aisling Hannon (1), and Siofra Ní Chonaill (1) leaving just two between the sides. Whelan tagged on a further 1-2 with great support play from Ciara Guilfoyle and Mary O Connor in the final quarter to secure a semi final place in a few weeks time.
